We collect only what you send us, we use it to reply to you and to arrange your safari, and we do not sell or share it.
Who we are
Thompson Safaris is a hunting outfitter based in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa. We are the responsible party for the personal information collected through this website under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). If you are visiting from the European Union or United Kingdom, this policy is also written to meet the GDPR. You can reach us at info@thompsonsafaris.co.za.
What we collect
This website has no user accounts and no tracking. The only personal information we hold is what you choose to type into one of our forms:
- Safari enquiry: your name, email address, phone or WhatsApp number, country, preferred dates, group size, the animals and package you are interested in, and anything you write in the message box.
- Contact form: your name, email address and your message.
- Reviews: your name, country, the year you hunted with us, your rating and the text of your review. Your email address is collected so we can confirm the review is genuine; it is never published.
When you submit a form our server also records the date, time and the internet (IP) address the form was sent from. We use this only to block spam and automated abuse, and we do not link it to you in any other way.
How we use it
- To answer your enquiry or message and to plan, quote and arrange your safari with you.
- To publish your review on this website, once we have read it, showing your name, country and year but never your email address.
- To send you occasional news and offers from Thompson Safaris, such as availability for the coming season or a new package. We only do this if you have enquired with or hunted with us. You can opt out at any time by emailing info@thompsonsafaris.co.za with the words “please unsubscribe”, or by replying to any such email, and we will stop straight away.
We do not use your information for anything else, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
Who sees it
Your information is seen only by the small team at Thompson Safaris who handle bookings and the lodge. It is emailed to us and stored on our web server. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
A few service providers process it on our behalf so that the website works: our web-hosting and email provider in South Africa, who carries the messages, and, if we have switched it on, Cloudflare, whose Turnstile service checks that a form was sent by a person and not a program. Each of them is bound to use the information only to provide that service to us.
We will disclose information if the law requires us to, for example to a court or a regulator.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and messages are kept for as long as we are in contact about a safari and for a reasonable period afterwards, so that returning hunters do not have to start from scratch. Published reviews stay on the site until you ask us to take them down. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so unless we have a legal reason to keep it, such as a booking record we are required to retain.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time to tell you what information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to take down a review, or to stop sending you promotional email. Email info@thompsonsafaris.co.za and we will respond within a reasonable time, and in any case within the periods the law allows. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa, or to your local data-protection authority if you are in the EU or UK, though we would appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Our forms are protected against automated abuse. Access to the server and to the mailbox that receives your messages is restricted to our team. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect what you give us.
Children
Our website is aimed at adults planning a hunting safari. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If a parent books on behalf of a family, the information about children is held as part of that booking only.
Cookies and storage on your device
We do not use tracking or advertising cookies. The little that this website stores in your browser is explained in our cookie policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will be mentioned on the website.
