Fishing the dam in the evening light

Fishing

Deep sea charters off the Eastern Cape coast, and trout and bass on the dams around the lodge.

Deep sea fishing

For those looking to experience more of the Eastern Cape’s incredible coastline, deep sea fishing offers an exciting opportunity to explore the region’s rich marine waters. The Eastern Cape is renowned for its excellent bottom fishing, with a variety of impressive species to target.

Deep sea fishing is available as a full-day activity, located approximately 2.5 to 3 hours’ drive from the lodge. Trips depend on tides and weather conditions, and an overnight stay may be required depending on departure times and sea conditions.

All fishing equipment and necessary gear are included in the experience, allowing you to simply enjoy a memorable day out on the water.

For the rest of the family

If you’re coming with a partner or children who would prefer to stay on land, the surrounding coastal area offers plenty to enjoy, including beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants and scenic horseback riding. These make a wonderful alternative for non-fishing companions to explore the coastline while you are out at sea.

Deep sea fishing charter prices are available on request and are weather-dependent and subject to suitable sea conditions. Activities for non-fishing companions, including horseback riding, restaurant lunches and other local experiences, can be arranged on request. These activities are not included in the safari rates, and all associated costs are for the client’s own account.

Trout and bass fishing

The dams surrounding Thompson Safaris offer a peaceful setting for fishing, with opportunities to catch brown and rainbow trout, as well as bass.

Trout fishing is fly-fishing only, while bass can be fished with conventional tackle. Both are a wonderful way to spend a relaxing late afternoon, unwind after a day in the bush and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Fishing equipment is available at the lodge, or you are welcome to bring your own.
